Donations of eye glasses and cell phones will be welcomed at Annual Conference Session this year, as in previous years. Look for separate bins at the entrance to the main meeting hall – and please be sure to drop glasses and phones into their respective receptacle, to eliminate the need for sorting afterward.
In addition, the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) Committee is asking all churches in the California-Nevada Annual Conference to send disaster relief kits for Haiti to ACS.
Kits may be dropped off at the UMVIM table at the Sacramento Convention Center, 1400 J Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. UMVIM will arrange shipping to the UMCOR West Supply Depot in Salt Lake City for distribution to Haiti.
Although Health Kits are still needed, authorities are emphasizing the current need for Layette Kits and Birthing Kits.
If you are unable to drop off kits at the Convention Center, you may take them to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 2391 St. Mark's Way, Sacramento, CA 95864.
Sierra Service Project to collect food for youth and leaders in mission
This summer Sierra Service Project anticipates that more than 2,000 middle school and high school youth and their adult leaders will be in mission and service throughout the Western United States. That's a lot of hungry workers to feed and keep hydrated – but you can help with this!
Sierra Service Project will collect donations of bulk peanut butter, jelly/jam, and powdered drink mix (lemonade, Tang, Kool-Aid, etc.) at the SSP display table at Annual Conference Session.
All donations need to be received before lunchtime on Friday. The SSP staff will be training while ACS is going on, and will need to pack up the supplies on Friday afternoon, for Saturday departures to their summer sites.
