Scholarships for Seminarians

The California Nevada Board of Ordained Ministry in conjunction with The General Board of Pension and Health Benefits, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, The Texas Methodist Foundation, and the Lily Foundation are offering three scholarships for seminarians.
Criteria for scholarship recipients:
* United Methodist enrolled certified candidate for ministry (elder or deacon)
* Demonstrated merit, progress, and commitment in the candidacy process
* MDIV student enrolled at one of the 13 United Methodist seminaries/schools of theology
* Full-time student
* Demonstrated financial need and how this scholarship will help avoid additional student loans
* Approval to receive the award through scholarship committee review from all matching partners
A standard online application will be created and administered by the GBHEM Loans and Scholarships Office. Award checks will be mailed to the recipient’s institution. Apply in January for Fall 2017 award and renewal opportunity Fall 2018.
The application will include the student submitting their Student Financial Aid report along with their Estimated Family Contribution.
Electronic references will be requested from their local pastor or District Superintendent to confirm membership in the United Methodist Church; from the chair of their District Committee to confirm candidacy status and progress; and the Director of Financial Aid from the seminary they are enrolled to confirm financial aid status.
Applicants will give permission for a credit check to be run for reference on student loan and other debt incurred to date.
Applicants must covenant to participate in Social Security and to participate in the Personal Investment Plan.
Applicants will receive and must participate in assistance from an EY counselor.
Applications will be reviewed online by the Scholarship Committee. Final recipients will be determined by each matching partner in the committee that may include representatives from: the seminary, foundation, annual conference, and GBHEM.
Up to three $25,000 scholarship ($12,500 per academic year) per student if matching from all entities is available.
