GBHEM Begins Search for Its New General Secretary

March 20, 2010

In anticipation of a new quadrennium, the elected members of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry have approved beginning immediately a search process for a new general secretary, with the goal of presenting a candidate at the August 2011 Board meeting.

The action came at the spring 2010 meeting of the board, March 18-20 in Nashville.
The Rev. Ramon Evangelista, chair of the board's Personnel and Policies Committee, said the board will contract with a search company to guide the process. He said the Personnel and Policies Committee will serve as the search committee.
The Rev. Dr. Jerome King Del Pino, an elder in the New England Annual Conference, was elected general secretary of GBHEM in 2001 and now is coming to the conclusion of his third and final term. Prior to joining the board, Del Pino served as superintendent of the Metropolitan Boston/South District from 1997 to 2001.
Bishop Marcus Matthews, president of GBHEM, asked board members, staff, and the Church to be in prayer for the Personnel and Policies Committee as the search process begins. "We covet your prayers during this important time of discernment," Matthews said.
Board members also approved an operational audit of the agency.
