Oakland Library Hosts Exhibition, Public Event

The Oakland Main Library will host "Out of the Rubble," an exhibition in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake, October 17, 2009 through February 20, 2010.
Located in the Oakland History Room on the second floor, the exhibition consists of photographs and other materials in the library's collections, which it is seeking to expand.
Another commemorative event, "Pulling Through," coincides with the exhibition. In the weeks following the Loma Prieta Earthquake, staff at the Oakland Public Library put out a call to members of the community to write personal narratives about their experiences. Three of the people who responded – Dave Kramer, Victoria Chames and Howard Egerman – have been invited back, 20 years later, to recall that day.
Hear their reminiscences on Saturday, October 17, 1-4 p.m. in the West Auditorium - and have your own reminiscences videographed for the library's collections, for use by future researchers and historians.
