Bishop Responds to Trio of International Disasters

October 02, 2009

Resident Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. has issued a plea for members of the California-Nevada Annual Conference to support the victims of this week's three international disasters - through prayers and also through contributions to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

"As your bishop, I offer my deepest condolences and ask that we uphold the victims of these disasters in our prayers," he writes.
"Let us reach out to them in love and compassion, sharing their sorrows as we share their joys, and standing in solidarity with them in this difficult time."
The Cal-Nevada community has numerous members who hail from the Philippines, Tonga, Samoa, and Indonesia - where a typhoon, tsunamis, and an earthquake caused great loss of life and displaced hundreds of thousands of people.
To contribute to relief efforts in those areas, visit the UMCOR website and look under HOW TO HELP in the upper right corner of the page to make an online donation.
The Bishop's message is highlighted on the Home Page of the Conference website at, with a link to the complete message.
You also may read it in its entirety by clicking on "Bishop's Articles," found under "Bishop" on the green navigation bar near the top of the Home Page.
