The Chancel Choir of Santa Rosa First United Methodist Church will join with the Morning Glory singers of Los Altos UMC for joint concerts on two different weekends next month. The first performance will be Saturday, October 17 at 7 p.m. at Santa Rosa First, and the concert will be repeated the following Saturday, October 24, at Los Altos, also at 7 p.m.
Both programs are open to the public. There is no charge, but offerings will be taken to benefit the music outreach ministry of the host church.
The combined choral groups - some 70 people in total - will sing various songs from the Emerald Isle, including a men's vocal piece and a women's. To round out the program, the choirs also will perform alone, with anthems in the music style of their own church.
The goodwill exchange was developed by the choir directors, Bill Golden of Los Altos and Doug Albertson of Santa Rosa First. The goal was not just to share concert experiences: Each choir will stay the night in the community of the respective host church, so that the choirs may lead worship together the following Sunday morning. Special social functions are also planned, to allow the singers and their families to get to know one another, be in good fellowship, and swap favorite church stories.
