Sacramento's Oak Park United Methodist Church has partnered with PraiseWorks, Inc. and The Christian Meditator to bring a health and fitness focus to the Christian community - and a new series "Holy Health" Fitness Classes has just gotten underway.
Classes begun this week:
Praise Dance Fitness, Wednesdays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., "a fun and interactive class" that integrates Praise dancing and aerobics; PraiseMoves, Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., "the Christian Alternative to Yoga" which includes deep stretching, strength training, flexibility, and relaxation; and Christian Meditation Group, Thursdays, 7-8 p.m., designed to help participants de-stress, control negative thoughts, and "abide in God's presence through guided, centering prayer and other forms of biblical meditation."
Next week, What Is Christian Meditation?, which meets on the third Wednesday of each month, teaches "the benefits of Christian meditation and how this spiritual discipline can create more peace and joy in your life and deepen your relationship with God." Class time 6:30-8 p.m.
Classes do not meet on the fifth Wednesday and Thursday of each month.
Get off the Pews Christian Aerobics, meeting on the second and fourth Saturdays, 8-8:50 a.m., starts October 10.
Class fee $2 for members of Oak Park UMC; $5 for others.
A Saturday Health and Welfare Education series begins in October, also. The first class, How Diet & Exercise Effects Stress, meets October 10, 9-11 a.m. Costs vary.
