Cal-Nev Churches Respond to 'Find A Church' Plea

September 18, 2009

Kudos to the churches of the California-Nevada Annual Conference for responding to the appeal by Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. and the General Church, and updating their information on the "Find A Church" website. Cal-Nevada ranks fifth or sixth nationwide (the statistics are fluid since updates are continually occurring) in terms of updates, with 55.83 percent of its churches complying.

Of the Conference's 369 churches, 206 have updated their information.
The updates are critical to the success of the Church's "Rethink Church" campaign. Commercials, print ads, billboards, tweets, texts, and other means of communication are driving seekers to the Church's website to learn about The United Methodist Church. The "Find" function on the site allows them to search for a UMC near them, based on categories such as Family Life, Exploring Spirituality, Teen Life, Healing Our Planet, Helping the Hungry, Arts, and Advocacy. All churches nationwide already are a part of the database, so it is vital that their data be up-to-date - so that the information that comes up as the result of a search is current and complete. It is a wonderful opportunity for Cal-Nevada churches to get their message across!
Bay View has the highest percentage of Find A Church updates of any district in the Conference so far, with 37 of 58 churches, or 63.79%, in compliance. It is followed by: Fresno, 35 of 55 churches, or 63.64%; Nevada-Sierra, 24 of 38 churches, or 63.16%; Delta, 37 of 64 churches, or 57.81%; Golden Gate, 25 of 48, or 52.08%; San Jose, 28 of 55 churches, or 50.91%; and Shasta, with 20 of 51 churches, or 39.22%.
Churches that have not yet updated their Find A Church information are urged to do so immediately. Even though 55.83 percent of Cal-Nevada's churches have updated their information, anything short of 100 percent compliance is failure, in a campaign that means so much to the life of the Church - and more importantly, to the lives of so many hurting individuals in need of a church home.
