Churches: Observe World Communion Sunday

September 02, 2009

World Communion Sunday - one of six Special Sundays of The United Methodist Church - is designated for observation on October 4, but can be celebrated at any time.

The Special Sundays are opportunities to share with offerings, beyond our regular giving. "When we give from the heart, we receive unexpected blessings - especially the joy of making a difference in someone's life," states the Special Sundays website.
On World Communion Sunday your generous gifts fund the General Board of Global Ministries' World Communion Scholarships, providing at least half the amount needed annually for ministries beyond the United States - as well as the Ethnic Scholarship and Ethnic In-Service Training programs of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
The six Special Sundays and their designated days of observation are:
World Communion Sunday - October 4, 2009 (October 3, 2010)
United Methodist Student Day - November 29, 2009 (November 28, 2010)
Human Relations Day - January 17, 2010
One Great Hour of Sharing - March 14, 2010
Native American Ministries Sunday - April 18, 2010
Peace With Justice Sunday - May 30, 2010
(World Communion Sunday - October 3, 2010)
(United Methodist Student Day - November 28, 2010)
However, don't forget that you may celebrate these Special Sundays at any time of the year!
