Courses on Preaching Extravagant Generosity at Cal-Nev Churches This Fall

August 12, 2009

Plan to hone your skills for preaching about three vital aspects of Extravagant Generosity:

1. A refreshing angle on the bedrock of generosity;

2. Firstfruits living as a proactive approach to proportionate giving; and

3. A new, "Legacy Sunday" model of money-and-values related to planned giving.

This course fulfills the Advanced Lay Speaking course on Stewardship, but it's really about helping people grow deeper generosity in their hearts, lives, and faith-based passion.

The dates are: September 19 and 26, 2009 at Auburn Pioneer United Methodist Church, and October 10 and 17, 2009 at Reno First UMC.

Each course will include two eight-hour Saturday workshops: The first for learning and resourcing, and the second for a preaching practicum. Classes will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Session leaders are:

Sept. 19 and Oct. 10 - Betsy Schwarzentraub, Conference Minister of Faith
     and Generosity

Sept. 26 - Barbara Smith, pastor of Auburn Pioneer UMC, and Blanche Farnam,
     District Lay
Speaking chair and member of the California-Nevada United
     Methodist Foundation Board of Directors

Oct. 17 - Tom Butler, pastor at Sparks UMC, and Kelly Dobrovolny, Ponderosa
     Cluster Lay
Leader

Registration cost of $25 includes lunch and Afire With God: Becoming Spirited Stewards, by Betsy Schwarzentraub. Additionally, the text, Preaching for Giving: Proclaiming Financial Stewardship with Holy Boldness, by Timothy Bagwell will be available for purchase at the class.

That's right: This is another great idea from Nevada-Sierra District! But anyone from the Cal-Nevada Conference is most welcome. If there are too many registrants, an additional class will be scheduled.
