Register Now for EXPLORATION 2009 Event, Nov. 13-15 in Dallas
EXPLORATION 2009, scheduled for Nov. 13-15 in Dallas, Texas, is a national event for high school seniors through young adults aged 24, who are considering a call to ordained ministry as a Deacon or Elder in The United Methodist Church.
Keynote speakers for the event will be the Rev. Tyrone Gordon, Dr. William B. Lawrence, Bishop Sally Dyck, and the Rev. Motoe Yamada of the California-Nevada Annual Conference, a pastor at Wesley UMC in San Jose.
Workshop presenters will include Cal-Nev's own Grady Knowles, Executive Secretary of The Conference Board of Pensions.
The ordained ministry of Deacons and Elders offers incredible opportunities for service in a variety of settings. These can include the local church, campus ministry, hospital or military chaplaincy, mission at home and abroad, teaching in college or seminary, social work, counseling, music or youth ministries, and many others.
Jenny Smith, MDiv student and past participant of an EXPLORATION event, notes, "I don't know if it was seeing liturgical dance for the first time, worshipping with a thousand friends, or an amazing group leader, but I heard God." She adds, "I left knowing I was called into ordained ministry. Now I'm in seminary, graduating next year and ready to receive my first appointment. EXPLORATION is a big reason I'm facing the future with hope as a young pastor in the United Methodist Church."
According to the Rev. Diana Bohn, appointed to Lynnewood UMC in Pleasanton, California as an associate pastor, and member of the EXPLORATION national design team, "The design team is working hard planning and preparing this event so young people can explore a variety of ways to serve."
