New Date for Spiritual Image Benefit Concert in San Mateo

June 24, 2009

A Spiritual Image benefit performance scheduled for Saturday, June 27 at Hillsdale United Methodist Church in San Mateo, California has been rescheduled to Saturday, July 11, at 5 p.m.

There is no admission charge but a free will offering will be taken. All proceeds from the concert will go toward the California-Nevada Annual Conference's Philippines Pastoral and Solidarity Task Force, to fund its third mission trip to the Philippines.

The task force will depart July 19 on a two-week mission headed by Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr.

The Philippines Pastoral and Solidarity Task Force was created by action of the June, 2006 Annual Conference Session to address concerns raised by extra-judicial killings in the Philippines. More than 900 documented political killings have taken place in the Philippines since 9/11. Among those targeted have been clergy and church workers.

As the Annual Conference authorized, the task force implemented a Solidarity and Pastoral Visit to the Philippines in February, 2007, and sent another such team June 23-July 7, 2008.

As the name of the project implies, the purpose of the trips is to provide solidarity with, and pastoral support to, the victims and families of extra-judicial killings. The visits also are intended to help those who are under threat of attack as a result of their activism and associations, and to strengthen the ties of ministry.

Please invite your church members, friends, and relatives to attend the benefit concert by the Spiritual Image - a spirited and renowned choir from Lake Park United Methodist Church in Oakland - on Saturday, July 11, at 5 p.m. at Hillsdale UMC.

Hillsdale UMC is located at 303 W. 36th Avenue, San Mateo, CA 94403.
