Oakland UMVIM Team to Travel to Uganda This Summer

June 24, 2009

A team of eight, being sent by Chinese Community United Methodist Church in Oakland, will embark on a United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) trip to Kumi, Uganda, July 6-23, in partnership with Youth and Child Visionary Ministries.

YCVM is a Kumi-based Christian effort of ministering to and caring for the orphaned, destitute, and at-risk children of the Kumi region in Uganda. Its vision is to establish a self-sustaining boarding school for the nurture and education of the children of that region.

The mission team members will help to launch the boarding school, and will conduct Vacation Bible School for the local children along with other community outreach efforts.

Fundraising efforts for projects such as construction, farming, development, and child sponsorship are ongoing. Visit http://kumikonnect.blogspot.com/ to find out more about the mission before, during, and after the team's return. If you wish to contribute to this effort, please make your tax deductible checks payable to CCUMC (Chinese Community United Methodist Church), and make the notation "YCVM" in the memo line.
