Cell Phones Welcome at Annual Conference Session - Eye Glasses, Hearing Aids, too!

June 12, 2009

Be Sure to Place in Separate Bins at ACS

It goes without saying, doesn't it, that your cell phone should be set to silent at Annual Conference Session. But that said, it's a fact of life that there will be many, many cells present June 17-20 at the Sacramento Convention Center - and if some are phones you no longer need, they'll be very welcome, indeed!

In keeping with longstanding tradition, donations of cell phones, eye glasses, and hearing aids will be accepted at ACS again this year - however, churches are asked to separate their donations and drop them in the separate bins designated for each item, located in the display table area.

The California-Nevada United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) office will collect and process the cell phones that are donated.

The eye glasses will be distributed by the Carmichael chapter of Kiwanis International. Catherine Snow and other members of St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Sacramento helped make this connection and will be picking up those donations.

The hearing aids will be collected by Don Jones of Berger & Jones Incorporated, the insurance plan administrator for the CA-NV Conference, for donation to Rotary International. Don is a member of the San Ramon, California chapter.

Since the cell phones, eye glasses, and hearing aids will be going to separate agencies it is important that donations be separated when taken to ACS.

Bins for the individual items will be clearly labeled. Look for them at the UMVIM display tables after entering the main hall at the Sacramento Convention Center. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE DONATIONS NEAR THE FRONT DOOR.
