This Year's Annual Conference: Much More Than a Business Meeting!

June 12, 2009

At Annual Conference Session the year, the focus will be on creating a transformative experience that weaves worship, opportunities for growth, and inspiration throughout - with prayer overlaying and undergirding it all. It definitely will be more than a business meeting!

One of the keynote elements is the introduction of targeted workshops designed to fully explore the Four Areas of Focus of The United Methodist Church, and how our Conference vision, expressed as four points of mission, is in alignment with the four foci.

The four points of mission are: Leadership Development (Passion for the Mind of Christ), Outreach and Justice (Compassion With the Heart of Christ), Partners in Discipleship (Celebrating Our Diversity and Unity in Christ), and Congregational Development (Extending Christ's Invitation to a Joyous Life).

Eight workshops will be offered on Thursday, June 18, 10:10 -10:55 and 11:00 -11:45 a.m.:

   >  Demographics for Church Leaders

   >  Local Church Stories About Outreach to the Poor

   >  Guidelines for Lay Leaders and Lay Members to Annual Conference

   >  Angola Partnership as an opportunity to Address Global Health and
          Ministry with the Poor

   >  Creative and Collaborative Youth Ministry

   >  Ministry Stories from Multi-Cultural Congregations

   >  "Re-Think Church" - Creating Places for New People (led by Jackie
          Vaughan from United Methodist Communications

   >  From Vital Signs to Fruitful Practices

"From Vital Signs to Fruitful Practices" will run through both learning sessions, but the seven others will be offered twice. You will have an opportunity to choose which workshop(s) you wish to attend, and pre-registration is not required.

We hope that each church and each member will leave Annual Conference this year fully engaged in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world!
