Volunteer Workdays Set, for Mission Opportunity 'Right Here at Home'

June 05, 2009

There's a mission opportunity for you and your church, right here at home! The MisiĆ³n Metodista Hispana de Soledad parsonage is in need of repair:

It needs new kitchen flooring, countertop, and sink; new tile in the bathroom; the gas heater and water heater need to be vented to the outside; and the carpet throughout needs to be removed and the underlying hardwood floors lightly sanded and re-varnished, among other improvements. It also needs a refrigerator and dishwasher - and eventually, new windows.

At Easter, the Monterey Bay Church Extension Society collected approximately $7,800, for which the committee gives prayerful thanks.

Now it's time to get to work!

The first volunteer workday will be Saturday, June 6, followed by June 13 and 27 (no work on June 20.) If needed, there will be additional workdays on Saturdays July 11 and 18.

Volunteer work hours will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., including a break for lunch. It is hoped that outside volunteers will be working alongside local United Methodists from Soledad on each of these days. Carpools are being arranged.

The parsonage is located at 300 Major Avenue (corner of Palm and Major) in Soledad.

Please contact Jerry Gleason, project coordinator, at 831.620.0285 (H) or 650.714.2102 (Cell) if you and your team can work. He needs to know how many helpers will be coming so that the Soledad UMC women can plan for lunch.

Brochures outlining the project are still available on request.

If you haven't had an opportunity to donate to this project, you still may do so:

Please send tax-deductible contributions, designated "Soledad Parsonage Repairs," to Richard Corkrum, MBCES Treasurer, 3194 Crescent Ave., Marina, CA 93933. The Extension Society thanks you in advance!
