Mission Minute: Churches Partner to Ship Ambulance to Tonga

April 30, 2009

First United Methodist Church in Bakersfield, California and Sanger (California) UMC, through the sponsorship efforts of their respective pastors, the Rev. Richard Thompson and the Rev. Sifa Hingano, have partnered to provide an ambulance for Prince Ngu Hospital in Tonga.

First UMC raised approximately $7,500 and Sanger will pay the remainder of the $10,000 shipping cost.

The ambulance will be transported from Sanger to Bakersfield, where it will be readied for shipment by May 15. It is hoped that the vehicle can be delivered before a mission team from Sanger arrives in Tonga in late July.

The ambulance will enable Prince Ngu Hospital to reach emergency patients who live in distant villages.

We celebrate this visible sign of Christ in our midst!
