'An Evening at the Luau' This Month Supports Joint Youth Ministry

April 16, 2009

The Joint Youth Ministry of San Jose invites you to its annual fundraiser, "An Evening at the Luau," on Sunday, April 26, 5-8:30 p.m. at Almaden Hills UMC.

For $30, an adult ticket entitles you to a Hawaiian-themed evening including dinner (catered by Events of Excellence), music, a youth talent show, and a huge Silent Auction of trips, electronics, theme baskets, and more. A child's ticket, also $30, includes babysitting, a pizza dinner, movies, and arts and crafts.

The Joint Youth Ministry (JYM) serves the youth of three San Jose United Methodist churches - Almaden Hills, Cambrian Park, and Willow Glen. In 2002, the churches pooled their resources and hired a youth director, Lisa Jacobs, to run a combined program for teens in grades 6 through 12.

JYM exists to create a safe place for young people to grow in their knowledge of who they are and who God is, and to equip them with the tools necessary to continue a lifelong journey within the body of Christ.

With more than 150 active teenagers, JYM's goal is to meet the teenagers' spiritual and emotional needs by providing weekly programs and numerous trips throughout the year. Activities include Sunday night youth groups; weekly Bible study and leadership development; activities such as hiking, volleyball, and basketball; and service trips: a snow trip, Mexico Mission trip, Native American Reservation Mission trip, Leadership Camp, and Junior High Camp.

The programs and trips influence a teenager in many positive ways. Your participation and/or donation will help fund scholarships for camps, trips, and other programs.
