Join UMVIM Pilgrimage to Holy Land in December

March 17, 2009

A United Methodist Volunteers in Mission team from the California-Nevada Annual Conference is forming for a trip to the Holy Land at end of year, to strengthen UMC peace and justice connections.

The group will depart from Sacramento on December 28 and return January 13, 2010. It is being led by the Rev. Tana McDonald of the Taylorsville, Greenville, and Chester UMCs, assisted by the Rev. Don Lee of Sierra Pines UMC in Grass Valley, California, and Rosann Mackey.

Team members will stay in Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and at a spiritual retreat center on the Sea of Galilee. They will deliver much-needed children's medicines and school supplies to HOPE School, interact and worship with Palestinian Christians and Muslims, meet with Israeli peace activists and justice partners, and visit a refugee camp and numerous mission projects. They will visit Nazareth, Capernaum, and the Mount of the Beatitudes, worship at the Wailing Wall, and have an opportunity to reaffirm their baptisms in the River Jordan.

The cost is estimated at $4,000 and applications are available now. If you're interested, get your passport and mark your calendar for a series of orientation and educational meetings being held this fall at Sierra Pines UMC: on Saturdays, September 26, October 24, and November 21, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. You will need to attend at least two of these in order to be eligible for the trip.

Sierra Pines UMC is located at 22559 W. Hacienda Drive, Grass Valley, CA 95949.
