Philippines Solidarity Visit Scheduled for August 13-24
The California-Nevada Annual Conference Philippines Solidarity Task Force has set August 13-24, 2009 for the next Pastoral and Solidarity Visit to the Philippines. The trip will be hosted by the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP), which will organize details of the trip itinerary based on events that unfold within the next few months.
This will be the third consecutive year that the Philippines Solidarity Task Force has organized such a visit.
In 2006, a resolution was passed at Annual Conference Session to respond to the reported extra-judicial killings taking place in the Philippines, along with other human rights abuses targeted against religious activists, educators, labor leaders, and students. As a result, families of victims have been visited in various regions of the Philippines, and an Advance Special offering has been established to help support the needs of surviving family members. In addition, task force members have been engaged in ongoing educational and advocacy efforts to stop the human rights abuses through a growing international ecumenical network.
Women and young adults are especially encouraged to join this year's team. For more information on the trip, contact the Rev. Fel Cao at 408-735-1034, firstname.lastname@example.org; the Rev.
