Bread for the World Urges You to Register for 'Gathering 2009'

March 12, 2009

"Please join us in Washington, D.C. June 14-16 for Bread for the World's Gathering 2009," says organization president David Beckmann.

It will be a time to Rejoice in 35 years of victories for poor and hungry people, in the Hope that God is moving to end hunger in our time, and a time to Act, "to urge our nation's leaders to reform foreign assistance so it is more effective in reducing hunger and poverty," he says.

Bread for the World is "a Christian voice for ending hunger." June Kim, executive secretary of the World Hunger/Poverty and Sustainable Agriculture and Development programs of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), is on the Bread for the World Board of Directors, where she serves as secretary.

Gathering 2009 will be held at American University with "exciting speakers, practical workshops, and inspiring worship." The organization's 35th anniversary will be celebrated with a festive dinner on June 15, and the gathering will conclude with visits to Congressional representatives on June 16. Visit to learn more.

Costs were contained as much as possible so that attending could be made affordable. Early-bird registration - before April 30 - is just $162, housing not included.

If you're unable to attend Gathering 2009, however, Bread for the World asks that you consider making a special gift of $35 in honor of its 35th anniversary. In appreciation, you'll receive a copy of Art Simon's new book, The Rising of Bread. For a gift of $100, or for attending the 35th Anniversary dinner, you'll receive an autographed copy. Your book will arrive in June.
