'Yoga of Devotion' at Glide UMC: Watch Video

February 28, 2009

A Bay Area woman with a vision of helping people better connect with God through yoga is teaching a Christian yoga class on Saturdays at Glide United Methodist Church in San Francisco - and donating net proceeds to children's charities.

Angela Pashayan, a breast cancer survivor and mother of three, credits yoga with helping her through her illness.

One of her students, Connie Cassady of Glide UMC, who identifies herself as a survivor of domestic violence, says she gets her peacefulness, calmness and "staying centeredness" from the class.

"For me, yoga is a full-body prayer," says another student, Alex Souto, also of Glide and a member of the Conference Committee on Christian Unity and Interreligious Concerns.

Cassady and Souto were interviewed as part of a 4:25 video about the class, "Yoga of Devotion," uploaded this week on the Cal-Nev Annual Conference video page, "REEL Witness."
