It's Church Video License Renewal Time!

January 09, 2009

It's time, once again, for churches to renew their video licenses through Christian Video Licensing International (CVLI).

The California-Nevada Annual Conference has an "umbrella" video license program that offers protection to Conference churches at a substantial savings over the cost of obtaining a license on their own. And this year, in an effort to be fiscally responsible by reducing mailing costs, we will email reminders to churches.

Those reminders will go out next week and will include an interactive form that can be printed and mailed back with payment. The form will also ask for updated contact information for those who administer the licensing program in each church.

By law, videos available in stores and rental outlets are for home use only; to lawfully play them in another venue, such as a church Sanctuary or meeting room, a license is required.

Go to "Church Video License" under "Resources" on the green navigation bar at the top of the Home Page at
www.cnumc.org to find out more, and to view an up-to-date list of churches who have coverage for the April 3, 2008 to April 2, 2009 year.

If your church was not licensed last year and you wish to obtain coverage this year, you may simply send a check for $168 ($169 if a childcare facility needs to be included), payable to the Cal-Nevada Conference, to the Conference Center, P.O. Box 980250, West Sacramento, CA 94798, Attention: Jane Horstman.

If you do not receive an email notification or if you have questions, contact Jane Horstman in the Communications Office at janeh@calnevumc.org or 916-374-1518.

As an added benefit, included in the license is access to an online resource designed to work hand in hand with a CVLI license, to help pastors find the perfect movie illustration to enhance their sermons or classes. Churches with a CVLI license will have access - free of charge - to ScreenVue, an online service that provides more than 2,000 sermon illustration ideas using major motion pictures. Each scene idea includes a movie summary, scene summary, themes, Scripture references, and insights and suggestions for using the scene in an effective way.

To access the sermon illustration ideas just go to www.screenvue.com, click the "Sign in" link in the upper right corner, and enter your CVLI License ID number. Your complimentary membership has no expiration as long as your CVLI license remains in effect.

Has your church taken advantage of this program? If not, you are welcome and encouraged to do so this year.
