End of Year/New Year's Greeting From Communities of Shalom

January 07, 2009

The Rev. Michael J. Christensen, National Director of The Shalom Initiative at Drew University Theological School, extends an End of Year/New Year's Greeting to the California-Nevada Annual Conference.

Communities of Shalom has been headquartered at Drew since January 1, 2008, when 78 Shalom sites migrated there from the General Board of Global Ministries of The United Methodist Church (one of its national partners). It has since grown by 14 sites, Christensen reports, adding, "Much good has occurred [in 2008] and momentum has gathered for a greater work [in 2009]."

Communities of Shalom is a grassroots, faith-based, community development network. Rooted in the prophetic tradition and a "practical theological interpretation" of Jeremiah 29:1-12, it promotes the spiritual values of: spiritual growth; multicultural harmony; economic prosperity; and health, healing, and wholeness.
