2009 Annual Conference Session to Differ From 2008

December 17, 2008

Planning for Annual Conference Session in June, 2009 is in the early stages, but some key decisions have been made, reflecting changes from the most recent sessions.

The 161st Session will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 17—for both clergy and lay members—with Opening Plenary and the Service of Communion. Following the lunch break, simultaneous clergy and laity sessions will be held.
(There will be an evening Plenary Session on Wednesday. Groups are asked to refrain from scheduling special events during the dinner break that precedes it.)
In 2007 and 2008, clergy gathered on Tuesday evening; laity session was held on Wednesday morning and Opening Plenary on Wednesday afternoon.
Other innovations in 2009 include the combining of the Celebration of Ministry and Remembering the Saints services into one, to be held on Thursday evening.
Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr. will preach at the Service of Communion on Wednesday and the Service of Ordination and Consecration on Saturday afternoon, June 20—after which the 161st Session will adjourn.
Districts are being asked to schedule District Dinners after the afternoon Plenary Session on Friday. There will be a special event planned by the Conference Episcopacy Committee (a welcome to Bishop and Mrs. Brown and their family) at 8 p.m. on Friday.
