Parable of the Talents Gives Rise to Country Crafts Christmas Fair at Point Pleasant UMC
November 20, 2008
They take Jesus literally at Point Pleasant United Methodist Church in Elk Grove, California.
That's what one is led to assume, at least, based on an experiment by the church's stewardship committee.
The committee decided to put a literal spin on one of Jesus' sermon illustrations— the Parable of the Talents—and see what would happen. Giving money to each member of the congregation, the committee challenged them to make the money grow and return it to the church. And they did! Using their God-given talents, along with the seed money from the stewardship committee, the people of Point Pleasant UMC created an inventory of handcrafted items to be sold at an upcoming bazaar—with all proceeds going to help pay for the church’s new Worship Center.
Point Pleasant invites the community to turn out on Saturday, December 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and tour the new Worship Center along with stocking up on Christmas gifts and plenty of delectable edibles. The Country Crafts and Baked Goods Christmas Fair will feature many one-of-a-kind handcrafted items, homemade jams and jellies, and a bounty of sumptuous baked goods.
And from noon to 3 p.m., have your picture taken with Santa Claus, too! The professional photographs will be available for you to take home right away.
Point Pleasant UMC is located at 3329 Point Pleasant Road, Elk Grove, CA 95757.
