Let There Be Peace!

November 13, 2008

In this time of financial turmoil and insecurity, and war and strife around the world, our world and our spirits need peace.

A Prayer Service for Inner Peace and World Peace will be held on Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Windsor Community United Methodist Church in Windsor, California. The service will focus on the peace born of God within our souls and in the world.

In a candlelit space, the service will use meditative prayer and songs to connect with God and allow those present to empty themselves of distractions and worries so as to create a space of peace and solitude within them. There will be specific prayer for world peace, for wisdom for our leaders, and for the people in the war torn areas of the world. This prayer service will reflect the ecumenical style and spirit of the Taize community in France. It will be offered on the second Friday of each month.

A Taize (variously pronounced TAY-zay, TYE-zay, and TUH-zay) prayer service emulates the form of Christian reflection done at the Taize Community in France. Taize is an ecumenical monastic community that serves as a sign of God, Who is love. Members seek to be a community of reconciliation, coming together in a way of peace, simplicity, kindness, mercy, joy, and love. The community attracts thousands of young people from around the world for meetings each year.

Everyone is welcome to share in this joint prayer for peace in this sacred time and space on the second Friday of each month. Again, this month’s prayer service for peace will be Friday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. at Windsor Community UMC, located at 9451 Brooks Road South (across from Windsor Middle School), Windsor, CA 95492.
