Seeking Hosts for Janet Lahr Lewis Visit

October 30, 2008

The Israel-Palestine Task Force of the California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church is seeking hosts for an upcoming visit by Janet Lahr Lewis, a General Board of Global Ministries’ missionary who serves in Israel-Palestine. Lahr Lewis, who works as a liaison between ecumenical groups and the two countries, will be back in Cal-Nevada March 11-14, 2009.

She was last here in October, 2007.

Lahr-Lewis will provide updates on events in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and offer insights into what we can do to facilitate peace with justice for Israel and Palestine.

Focusing on advocacy and activism, Janet is the main contact for Volunteers in Mission teams and United Methodist visitors who wish to follow the recommendation of the General Conference to spend time with Christians in the Israel/Palestine area, while making connections with UMC partner organizations and Advance Projects.

“Christ calls us to be ministers of justice,” she says. “Through my work with the Palestinian Christian community, I will be able to answer the call by working for a just and lasting peace for Palestinians and Israelis, so the reconciliation and healing can occur.”

Sign up to host and/or participate in a program with Janet Lahr Lewis by contacting Doug Smith, Chair of the Israel-Palestine Task Force, as soon as possible—at dsmith@pacific.edu. The schedule of programs for her visit will be set at the January 15, 2009 meeting of the task force.
