Connect With God Through Taize Prayer Service at Windsor UMC

October 03, 2008

We are experiencing a time of turmoil and insecurity – but peace and strength can be found when our spirits connect with God’s Spirit.

Toward this end, A Time of Prayer and Song in the spirit of the ecumenical Taize community will be offered on the second Friday of each month, beginning on Friday, October 10, at Windsor Community United Methodist Church in Windsor, California. The service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The Taize (variously pronounced TAY-zay, TYE-zay, and TUH-zay) style of prayer emphasizes our inner life and an experienced encounter with God. Its aim is to connect with God through emptying ourselves of distractions and worries so that we can create a space of silence and solitude within us. It is in this space and time that God’s Spirit can “speak” to our listening spirit and work to transform our souls. A Taize Time of Prayer includes prayer, meditative songs, Scripture, and silence.
A Taize prayer service emulates the form of Christian reflection done at the Taize Community in France. Taize is an ecumenical monastic community that serves as a sign of God, Who is love. Members seek to be a community of reconciliation, coming together in a way of peace, simplicity, kindness, mercy, joy, and love. The community attracts thousands of young people from around the world for meetings each year.
Everyone is welcome to attend and connect with God in this sacred time and space on the second Friday of each month. Windsor Community UMC is located at 9451 Brooks Road South (across from Windsor Middle School), Windsor, CA 95492. For more information call the church at 707-838-6898.
