"UMVIM on Wheels" - Care-a-Vaners Take on Shasta Methodist Camp Projects

September 26, 2008

The Care-a-Vaners are a group of RV owners, responsible for a great deal of the repair and upkeep at United Methodist camps and churches in the California-Nevada Annual Conference: "sort of UMVIM on wheels!" as Sue King, Conference Director of United Methodist Volunteers in Mission, puts it.

In September the Care-a-Vaners took on several projects at Shasta Methodist Camp, including installing new double-pane windows in Buckner Lodge to replace the less-energy-efficient old ones.
Another major job they tackled was replacing the lower siding of the lodge with Hardy Board, which necessitated taking down the access ramp and replacing several of its planks with new ones.
They also remodeled the bathroom at the lodge (Margie Shaw is in photo at left),  installing new fixtures and painting the room.
In the course of all the work Marv and Ina Tanner (shown below) even managed to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary!
Interested in taking your RV on the road alongside the Care-a-Vaners? Contact Sue King or Eddie Frutchey in the UMVIM office, 916.374.1582 or 916.374.1584. They will be happy to provide you with information about the group.
