Bishop Shamana Receives Retirement Surprise

August 22, 2008

The churches of the California-Nevada Annual Conference will go with Bishop Beverly J. Shamana into her retirement. More than 100 of them, large and small, and representing all seven Conference districts, participated in a secret project to provide the Bishop with a video farewell.

Some sent DVDs. Others did PowerPoint presentations. Many sent photographs, cards, and letters. Some churches chose a single spokesperson to extend a message of appreciation and farewell, while others engaged their entire congregations in singing songs, shouting well-wishes, and waving goodbye. The creativity demonstrated by the variety of material submitted truly reflected the diversity of this Conference and was a fitting tribute to this Bishop, who so highly prizes artistic endeavor.
The project was announced in February and, amazingly enough – as far as we are aware – the secret was kept until August when the Bishop was presented with 2½ hours of greetings, on three DVDs, to take with her into retirement and enjoy at her leisure.
Truly, the Artful Presence of the churches of Cal-Nevada will be with Bishop Shamana always!
A special farewell message from Bishop Shamana to the churches has been produced on DVD, as well. A copy was mailed, this week, to each church in the Conference.
