Angels on Call/Friendly Visitor Training Being Offered in September

August 13, 2008

Registration is underway for Angels on Call/Friendly Visitor Training, Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in San Rafael, California. It’s for anyone interested in visiting homebound persons on a continuing basis.

Friendly Visiting is an informal sort of spiritual friendship in which visitors listen to others' stories and share some of their own lives. It is a type of layperson pastoral care, in which the visitor is a source of comfort and sharer of congregational life, while the visitee shares hopes, joys and hurts.

Senior New Ways Executive Director Judith Pruess-Mellow will lead the training, explaining the philosophy behind Friendly Visiting and teaching participants how to do it with practice. The workshop also will cover the creation, coordination, and administration of a Friendly Visitor program. An 18-page booklet is included in the training. Bag lunch suggested.

There is no cost and all are welcome – but registration is highly recommended. To sign up, send a note to Pat Sanborn, 1551 Montgomery Drive, Santa Rosa, CA 95405, or email to pat@fumcsantarosa.org.

The training is funded by the General Board of Discipleship through FUMC, Santa Rosa.

The church is located at 9 Ross Valley Drive at 4th Street, San Rafael, CA 94901.
