Prayers for Zimbabwe

June 27, 2008

The General Secretary for the General Board of Church and Society, Jim Winkler, asked for prayer for Zimbabwe as presidential run-off elections were scheduled for Friday, June 27:

“We have all seen the tragic events unfolding in Zimbabwe recently. The elections for control of the country are to take place this Friday, and, in fear for his life, the opposition leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, has hidden himself in the Dutch embassy. President Mugabe intends to go ahead with the elections and violence has been perpetrated against the Zimbabwean people, many of whom are fellow United Methodists.
“Our hearts go out to the people of Zimbabwe who have endured so much and so I encourage you and your church to join us as we pray for peace and justice for the people of Zimbabwe.” Visit GBCS Prayers for Zimbabwe page to make a Prayer Pledge.
