Episcopacy Transition Team Is at Work

May 29, 2008

Preparations are underway for the upcoming Episcopal change. Bishop Beverly J. Shamana will retire August 31, 2008. Her successor will be named at the Western Jurisdiction Conference, meeting in Portland, Oregon July 16-19.

Delegated by the Committee for the Episcopacy, Rev. Anne Lau Choy chairs a Transition Team which has already met to begin preparations.
There are two areas of focus. Arrangements are being made to welcome Bishop Shamana’s successor and for the transition of the Episcopal residency; and a transition manual is being prepared, to include basic information about the area and the California-Nevada Conference, along with information to introduce Conference leaders and staff.
After the appointment is made, a member of the transition team will be designated to serve as liaison for the initial weeks of transition. Since Bishop Shamana’s successor will begin ministry September 1, 2008, it is advised that calendar requests be submitted to the Office of the Bishop following that date.
