Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration Planned for Chico’s Aldersgate UMC

May 28, 2008

Aldersgate United Methodist Church of Chico, California will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on October 12, 2008 – and plans have been underway for many months to make it a very special day in the life of the church.

The Rev. Neal Neuenburg, Aldersgate pastor, will share the pulpit that morning with other pastors from the church’s recent past. Music will fill the air – a talented group of musicians from Redding will play toe-tapping, jazz-type hymns from church history – and afterward a skit and a PowerPoint of Aldersgate ministries from past to present are sure to bring laughter and tears.
After worship there’ll be a mouthwatering barbecue of tri-tip and chicken for all to enjoy!
The planners of the celebration give thanks for the forethought of those – notably then-Superintendent Ben Gould and Bishop Donald Tippett – who, 50 years ago, envisioned a new church that would reach people for Christ in the Chico area.
