GBCS General Secretary to Speak to ACS Mealtime Event

April 25, 2008

The General Secretary of the United Methodist General Board of Church and Society (GBCS), Jim Winkler, will be the keynote speaker at an evening mealtime event during this year's California-Nevada Annual Conference Session.

In "Change or More of the Same?" Winkler will provide his impressions of General Conference 2008 legislation and decisions on social justice issues. His address will be offered during a dinner co-sponsored by Methodist Federation for Social Action (MFSA) and the Conference Board of Church and Society, on Thursday, June 19 at 5:30 p.m., upstairs in the Convention Center.

As chief executive of GBCS, Winkler leads a staff of 22 who seek implementation of the denomination's Social Principles through education, witness, and advocacy. GBCS is the Church's international public policy and social justice agency, carrying out a wide-ranging ministry of peace and justice throughout the world.

Winkler has led delegations to many parts of the world seeking peaceful solutions to global conflict, has traveled extensively, preaching and leading workshops and training events, and is frequently called on by the national and international media to speak to the justice work of The United Methodist Church.

Tickets $36. Reservations must be received by Friday, June 13 but seating is limited.
