Certified Lay Ministry (CLayM) Students Gather for a Training Retreat
October 30, 2013
Three students currently in the Certified Lay Minister (CLayM) at Home class recently gathered in Roseville for the first of two retreats.
Alifereti Malo (First UMC San Rafael Fijian Ministry), Allison Mattocks (Truckee Church of the Mountains), and Michael Herber (First UMC Arroyo Grande, California-Pacific Conference) met at the First UMC of Roseville for two days of instruction in preaching, an introduction to spiritual disciplines, a review of discernment principles, and equipping for ministry.
After a week break, these three will continue with the second session of video lessons and gather back in Roseville for their second retreat. They will demonstrate what they learned as they participate in a preaching practicum (delivering a sermon to their instructors and class), are introduced to core gifts, spiritual leadership, and ministerial ethics. At the end of the second retreat, they will have met all the requirements of the CLayM Program. They will be recognized as CLayM Graduates and receive their certificates at the Annual Conference Session in June 2014.
The next CLayM Home class will be from January 27, through April 27. A synopsis of the CLayM Program, the application, the required references forms and costs are available from the CLayM Page on the Conference website, click here, or e-mail the training coordinator, Rev. Steve Pudinski, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call First UMC Roseville, (916) 783-3464.
