Interim Western Jurisdiction Coordinator for Volunteers in Mission has passion for local church involvement

January 29, 2008

The Western Jurisdiction’s Board of Directors for United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) has appointed Heather Wilson its interim Jurisdictional Coordinator.

Ms. Wilson is an attorney and former Western Jurisdiction field representative for Global Ministries’ ADVANCE for Christ and His Church, one of the designated giving arms of the United Methodist Church. Wilson says her background with the ADVANCE makes for an easy transition into her new assignment. “UMVIM and the ADVANCE are kind of like cousins. UMVIM has wonderful sites for people with a passion for ministry to be part of and the ADVANCE is a way many people can help support the UMVIM projects they go on.”

Dr. Sue King, WJ Chair of UMVIM says, “In UMVIM our highest priorities are about forming mission relationships. Our Board of Directors is enthusiastic about this new relationship that is developing between ourselves and Heather. We were seeking someone who would see themselves as our partner in promoting annual conferences’ UMVIM ministries and representing our Western Jurisdiction. We are delighted to be in relationship and partnership with Heather.”

Wilson says her mission is to bring UMVIM in the Western Jurisdiction together as one unit, while respecting the different needs and desires of each annual conference. “I want UMVIM and the people at the local church level to know that this is their ministry, and a ministry they can be involved in at any level, whether they go on a team, design a team, or pray for a team. There are many ways for the local church to be involved.”
