New Conference missionary is a familiar face

November 09, 2007

The California-Nevada Annual Conference has a newly-commissioned missionary whose name and face are familiar to many of you: Katherine Parker, a Reserve Lay Delegate to Jurisdictional Conference and a former assistant in the Conference Communications Office, has just completed qualifications and consecration for service through the General Board of Global Ministry.

Parker is a member of Mt. Tamalpais UMC in Mill Valley and serves as secretary for the Conference Board of Church and Society.

She will be serving in Cambodia soon after the first of the year and is available now for speaking engagements in all Conference churches.

“If you would like this vibrant young missionary to speak at an occasion in your church, please invite her!” says the Rev. Becky Goodwin, Conference Secretary for Global Ministries. “You do not have to go through me, but I will help you with the simple paperwork if you book Katherine, so let me know if you have invited her.”

As with any itinerating missionary, Parker will be reimbursed by the Conference for her travel expenses. There is no direct cost to the church itself for booking a missionary for a talk, but Goodwin will send the church information about making a contribution to the travel account.

Goodwin says she highly recommends Katherine Parker for a covenant relationship with a church. She will explain the covenant relationship program to any interested church and provide enrollment forms.

Churches interested in having Parker speak should write or email her right away, Goodwin urges, “so that she can be very busy visiting churches before she goes to Cambodia!”
