New leadership in place for United Methodist Foundation

November 02, 2007

California-Nevada Conference Bishop Beverly J. Shamana has announced that new leadership is in place for the United Methodist Foundation, following the resignation of the Rev. Mark Parsons as Executive Director in August.

The Foundation Board has elected Celeste Maia Cron to serve as part time Acting Executive Director, effective immediately, the bishop reports.

“Celeste is no stranger to the Board, as she has served as a member and Vice Chairperson since January of 2003. Her skills and qualifications will provide experienced leadership for our Conference while the search committee begins its work of putting long term leadership in place,” adds Shamana.

Cron is president and CEO of her own business, M & M Services, which she has operated for a number of years. She was selected by Governor Pete Wilson as the first woman to head the California Office of State Publishing and held that position from 1993 to 2000, with oversight of a budget that grew to $70,000,000.

Cron has a BA and MBA from San Francisco State University. She is married with children and grandchildren and is an active member of Davis United Methodist Church.

She can be reached at the Foundation Office at the Conference Center on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday of each week at (916) 374-1579.

Parsons, who was at the Foundation helm for five years, stepped down from the position in response to a call to ministry in Minnesota.
