Easter Hill Student named to Washington D.C. internship program

June 14, 2007

Alfonso Noel Estes was selected by the General Board of Church & Society to participate in the "Ethnic Young Adult Internship Program."

Noel is 21 years old and  a member of Easter Hill UMC, in Richmond, CA. He attends San Francisco State University and lives at "The Edge" (campus ministry house). He is a philosophy, religion, and music major. Noel is very justice oriented; this past year he spoke at an immigration rights rally on campus, and was one of the organizers of a march on campus regarding fee hikes at the University.

Noel is assigned to work with the Jubilee Campaign for eight weeks while in D.C.

The Executive Committee of the Conference Board of Church & Society has granted Noel $500, from the Peace with Justice Fund, to show support of him and for this opportunity. In the past the committee has also shown support to other interns who have participated in this program.
