Central Florida disaster area to receive UMCOR attention

February 09, 2007

Central Florida continues to dig out from the destruction caused by the Feb 2 thunderstorms and tornadoes that damaged the area. The killer storms were sufficient to declare a state of emergency in four counties. The storms killed at least 20 and sent many more to hospitals. The UM Committee on Relief is in contact with the Storm Recovery Center for the Florida Conference as they assess the situation. UMCOR is sending emergency grants to the area. The Florida Conference Web site notes that offers of assistance for survivors are already pouring in from areas surrounding those affected (Domestic Disaster Response: Florida Tornadoes, Advance #901670). — UMCOR
