Cabinet Holy Conferences with CONAM

October 29, 2014

Bishop Warner H. Brown, Jr., and the Cabinet of the California-Nevada Conference recently shared a holy conferencing experience with the Committee On Native American Ministries (CONAM). The meeting was in response to one of the commitments Bishop Brown made to the group during the 2014 Annual Conference Session to listen and gain a greater understanding of the impact decisions and actions by the conference have had on their communities. Also present was the Rev. Andrea Davidson who chairs the Conference Worship Task Force. An Acts of Repentance service will take place during the 2015 Annual Conference Session in Burlingame.  In preparation for the service, each congregation in the California-Nevada Conference is asked to:
  • Learn the history of their own communities and work to identify Native American neighbors and become aware of local Native American tribes;
  • Learn the history of their own congregation as it has related to Native Americans and find out if their past, or current buildings were built on Native American land without compensation; and,
  • Learn about the ministry and history of the conference's three Native American churches: Klamath, Round Valley, and Schurz.
