Invitation to a Week of Compassion
Los Altos United Methodist Church is taking a week off from its regularly scheduled Sunday worship services on October 26 to serve others in a hands-on way. The church has organized a week of volunteer service opportunities October 20–26 and invites people from other churches to participate. There are 85 projects from San Jose to San Francisco to choose from during the week and on the weekend, and more than 1,400 volunteer spots to fill. Volunteer activities include sorting food at Second Harvest Food Bank, working on construction projects for Rebuilding Together and other organizations, preparing and serving meals at Hope’s Corner, repairing bicycles for donation at the Silicon Valley Bicycle Exchange, donating blood at a bloodmobile on the church campus, and many more. Activities are available for all age groups and abilities. Los Altos UMC is covering the cost of any supplies needed for projects, so participation is free.
