Park Presidio UMC Launches New Concert Venue

October 02, 2014

Park Presidio UMC, San Francisco, recently launched its new concert venue “Performance @ Park Presidio” to a full house as nationally-known comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer entertained an audience with her tales of coming out in the 70s, balancing her career as a stand-up comic with new and old relationships, and looking at the world though a lens of political incorrectness.
This event, a benefit for Park Presidio UMC's Butterfly Garden and Labyrinth, took place just one year after the church released the first butterflies into its garden. For the past 12 months, this Inner Richmond community has had a rare opportunity to enjoy both the growth of a garden and a concept: namely, “You Can Fly, but the Cocoon Has Got to Go!”
That was the title of a sermon presented by Gess who has since become producer of the “Performance @ Park Presidio” series, bringing in a new phase of neighborhood activity with concerts plus additional workshops.
These concerts are intentionally reaching out to people who have been estranged from the established church or have no church background at all.  With each concert they engage people who ask about worship and have even been inside the building before.  The church sees these concerts as a missional outreach into the community.
“Performance @ Park Presidio” is located at Park Presidio UMC, 4301 Geary Blvd, San Francisco. For more information, contact Pastor Sandy Gess at for additional information, or click here.
