Building a caring congregation
Los Altos United Methodist Church is offering a training weekend for people interested in becoming care ministers or increasing their care ministry skills. The training is open to pastors and members of other churches who feel called to the ministry of congregational care. The Rev. Karen Lampe, executive pastor of congregational care at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas, is coming to LAUMC to lead the training. Rev. Lampe says that “congregational care is not just caring for people in a church. It’s also people in the church providing care.” She and her team developed this training based on her program at Church of the Resurrection. Rev. Lampe has written two books on “The Caring Congregation” and led many workshops and seminars on the topic. Attendees of this two-day program will receive a copy of her recently published second book, “The Caring Congregation: Training Manual and Resource Guide.” The two-day training seminar will be held October 10 and 11, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in Creekside Center. Los Altos UMC is located at 655 Magdalena Ave (cross street: Foothill Expy), Los Altos, CA 94024. The cost of the program is $100 per person, which includes meals and materials. Several partial scholarships are available. If you’re interested, please register at www.laumc.org/lay-care-minister-training by Friday, September 26, or contact Patricia Parfett (650) 948-1083 or email@example.com for more information.
