Bakersfield Burrito Project Finds New Life

On Sunday, September 8, 2013 Wesley United Methodist Church in Bakersfield and the Bakersfield Burrito Project kicked off their partnership to prepare burritos every Sunday in the church kitchen.
Last year, the Bakersfield Burrito Project – a group of volunteers who prepare food for the homeless and needy - was shut down by their local county health department when their feeding of the homeless in the city parks on Sundays drew media attention.
However, the Bakersfield Burrito Project is now up and running in their new home — the kitchen at Wesley United Methodist Church in northeast Bakersfield and on Sunday, the group prepared 84 burritos. The goal is to work up to about 200, Founder and CEO Belinda Lopez said.
