Israel-Palestine Cal-Nevada Task Force Submits petition to Annual Conference Commending Study of Kairos Palestine document
The Israel-Palestine Task Force presented a petition to the California-Nevada Annual Conference in June 2010, commending the study of the Kairos Palestine Document. Kairos Palestine is the Christian Palestinians’ word to the world about what is happening in Palestine. The process of writing the document took more than a year, and was done in prayer and discussion, guided by their faith in God. It has been written at a time when Palestinians seek the glory of the grace of God in their land and in the sufferings of their people. It requests the international community to stand by the Palestinian people who have faced oppression, displacement, suffering, and clear apartheid for more than six decades. It is meant to challenge Christian Palestinians in the region, as well as communicate to all churches and Christians in the world. Kairos Palestine was distributed at a launching in December 2009. United Methodists and ecumenical partners around the world are now beginning to read and respond to this cry of hope, shared in love, prayer, and faith in God.
The Israel-Palestine Task Force urges all congregations, boards, agencies, and caucuses to read Kairos Palestine so that we might hear with open hearts what Christian Palestinians are saying to us – and join in an appropriate response in covenant with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land.
