Please note: CEUs approved by the CEU Approval Committee are recognized by the California-Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Others may or may not choose to recognize these same CEU's at their own discretion.

INTERCULTURAL COMPETENCY (click on this link for more info. including ceu credits)
Work in this area equips pastors to step outside of their shoes, their culture, their way of being into another’s shoes, culture and way of being. These skills enable pastors to see through the eyes of another—how another lives, functions, and makes decisions while maintaining the ability to step back into one’s own way of functioning, making decisions, living, etc.

SEXUAL ETHICS FOR CLERGY (click on this link for more info. including ceu credits)
Workshops/seminars in this area should include examining boundary issues between pastors and congregations, sexual harassment issues, dating, friendships, and gift giving.

Work in this area should be focused on deepening the pastor’s spiritual life and relationship with God, i.e. learning spiritual disciplines, directed prayer retreats, etc. (Work with your own spiritual director will not fulfill this requirement).

PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY DEVELOPMENT (click on this link for more info. including ceu credits)
Work in this area could include any aspect of ministry that the pastor (or others) deem necessary for increased competency, i.e. preaching, worship, pastoral care, Biblical studies, conflict management, training leaders, etc.
Requirement: 5.5 CEU per quadrenium for all active clergy are to be distributed among the three catagories of: Professional Competency Development, Career Assessment and Life Planning, and Self-care and Personal Growth. For 2009-2012 phase-in period, only 2 of these 5.5 CEUs are required.
