Read Dresses for Haiti– a new Faith in Action story posted to the Conference website.
In the summer of 2012, the Rev. Dawn Boyd, Minister of Discipleship at San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo, California, started a small group that is learning about Haiti and UMC missions there – especially those of the California-Nevada Annual Conference.
The group launched a project to make dresses for little girls in Thomas, Haiti.
"We have 200 adorable (if I do say so myself!) dresses to send with Warren McGuffin in a couple of weeks," Boyd (below, with McGuffin) said earlier this month, adding, "I'm willing to be a resource for a church that would like to get involved in a dressmaking project for Haiti." She notes that the dresses actually could be given to any hot-weather country where children need clothes.
The group also has made tote bags for school kids and shopping bags for cooks to take to market. On the horizon: more totes, "and probably shorts for the boys."
Faith in Action stories are found under the News tab (see the menu on the right side of the page). Excerpts of these stories also show up on the Home Page of the Conference website (www.cnumc.org) on a rotating basis.
